a type of dense fiber sheet that can be used under a layer of fabric or roving during stitching or needle felting. Its purpose is to help eliminate or reduce puckering and pulling that occur from a concentration of stitches or felting.
The top stabilizer shown in the photo is a water soluble stabilizer. It is usually put on top of the fabric so that loose threads or small pieces of fabric are secured before sewing. Warm, soapy water washes it out after sewing is completed. This stabilizer was used on the piece "Heaven" before the free-motion stitching of the small fabric pieces was done.
