Autumn colors of wool and silk roving were hand blended and then needle felted. Each of these mottled felts was then wet felted and cut into the smaller pieces used for this work. These small pieces were laid out onto commercial felt and stitched into place. Free-motion stitching using a thread painting technique was done around each piece, causing them to puff slightly and giving a lacy blend of colored threads to the edges. All of these elements combined to create a contemporary composition reminiscent of treetops as they transition into Autumn colors.
